Letter from the President
January 5, 2026
Dear Principal &/or Senior Class Counselor;
Since 1978 The Philomatheon Society of The Blind has made a scholarship grant available each year for a qualified LEGALLY BLIND Stark County High School Senior or qualified former student.
The grant is for one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500.00) for each of two (2) years of college or advanced training. Any legally blind high school senior or former student, who qualifies for such grant may apply at Philomatheon.com there is an accessible fillable PDF or contact The Philomatheon Society of the Blind 2701 Tuscarawas St. West Canton, Ohio 44708 phone 330-453-9157 or email philomatheonsociety@gmail.com for an application or questions.
We would appreciate it if the School Principal or Counselor could assist the student in completing and returning the application by February 28, 2026.
Applicants will be notified of the Selection Committees decision by mail, no later than March 31, 2026.
The definition of LEGALLY BLIND is as follows; The central vision in your better eye, with the best correction possible, is no better than 20/200. Peripheral vision is no greater than 20 degrees in the better eye.
